Minister’s message: Unbelievable! How life has changed in 50 years.
Dear Friends
Unbelievable! How life has changed in 50 years.
- Telephones: almost every house had a land line; no-one had a mobile phone. Now, most households use mobile phones only.
- Television: BBC One started at 10.30 am and closed at midnight. Today we have 24 hour television. Then, there were three channels to choose from – today, 480.
- Petrol: adjusting for inflation, a gallon cost £3.60 – today £5.50.
- Plastic: then, everybody’s friend. Today – the Pacific Ocean plastic garbage patch is three times larger than France.
The world has changed beyond recognition in the last 50 years and most of our grandparents would be speechless if they saw Scotland today.
But bigger changes lie ahead: our children are going to witness even greater changes in their lifetime than we have in ours.
But the beautiful promises of the Lord Jesus do not change.
They are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. They are still listened to, read and called upon – as much today as ever before. And they still bless us all.
Every blessing,
James Gatherer.
