The World Church Team seeks to raise awareness of and support financially projects that aim to transform lives and bring hope, love and justice to some of the poorest communities in our needy world.” Since 2007 the Team has raised and donated over £38,500.

In October 2008 we held the first of the monthly coffee mornings in the Parish Church Hall, now a fixed item in the Kirkcudbright calendar and enjoyed by many regular customers. Up to the end of 2023 these coffee mornings have raised £30,031.21. They take place on the first Saturday of most months from 10am-12 noon. All the delicious cakes, scones and biscuits are donated by our wonderful local home bakers.

All income from these mornings with their sales table, together with that from other fund-raising events, is donated to projects in the UK and worldwide. The decisions as to which projects or charities to support are made by the team with input from other interested people.

Since 2007 we have supported Presbytery Mission Partners in Kenya, Bangladesh, and Malawi. We have supported other partners through Christian Aid as well as projects in Syria, Palestine, Nepal and Malawi, including EMMS International and MAP.

At present we are supporting Gary Brough, a Presbytery Mission Partner in Malawi, helping with bursaries for young girls (mostly orphans) to attend secondary school and University, and Samara’s Aid Appeal, caring for, feeding, educating and training widows and orphans in Syria.

We enjoy hearing about some of these projects when Mission Partners and members of other charities visit and speak at Church services and other events.

We also respond regularly to urgent emergency appeals through DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) which brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas, also through Christian Aid and Save the Children.

Mary’s Meals – “a movement of people that simply won’t accept that a child should go hungry in this world of plenty”, which feeds over 2 million children at school every day – is a regular recipient of our donations.
