The Tim Kliphuis Trio are one of the world’s top string groups, combining jaw-dropping virtuosity and mesmerizing improvisations with a beautifully varied repertoire sourced from classical, gypsy jazz and North-European folk music.

Violinist Tim Kliphuis and his colleagues Nigel Clark (guitar) and Roy Percy (double bass) return to Galloway to celebrate their 18th year of touring together.

Expect the gypsy jazz music of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, who inspired Tim, Nigel and Roy to become improvising musicians.

Also on the programme is a preview of the Trio’s new suite ‘Pictures’: famous paintings by Klimt, Van Gogh and others come alive in sparkling arrangements of Mussorgsky’s and Kliphuis’ themes.

Tickets £15 (including refreshments), available from Thomson’s Newsagent in Kirkcudbright, from Tim Kliphius’ website or at the door by cash or card. Proceeds will go to the church’s renovation fund.

Meantime, here’s a sample of the trio’s music from Tim’s YouTube channel
