First phase of church redevelopment to begin in October
Kirkcudbright Parish Church has succeeded in assembling the £225,000 needed for the first phase of its redevelopment programme, which is intended to increase community use of the building.
Energetic fund-raising by members of the congregation has brought in more than £150,000, with charitable bodies contributing a further £82,000 in grants:

- Benefact Trust £12,000
- Galloway Association of Glasgow £2,500
- Garfield Weston Foundation £20,000
- General Trustees of Church of Scotland £7,500
- Heritage Lottery Fund £25,000
- National Lottery Community Fund £10,000
It means that work can start in October 2025 – lasting about six months – including adding toilets, a kitchen and a servery, improving the entrance and installing a glass screen beneath the gallery above the entrance doors. Energy efficiency measures will include insulation and LED lighting.
Fundraising committee member Tracy Jones told the Galloway News: “It’s very exciting and it’s taken a lot of hard work.
“The church is at the heart of the community and as such we are aiming for the church to have the community at its heart.”
Services will be held in the church hall while the renovations are carried out.
