The bells are ringing out for VE Day

On Thursday 8 May the bells of Kirkcudbright Parish Church will celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day by ringing for 80 strokes after the clock chimes 3 pm.

It was at 3 pm on 8 May 1945 that Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced on the radio that the war in Europe had ended, following Germany’s surrender the day before.
